Troop 4015/Crew 4015

Troop and Crew 4015 meets on Wednesday evenings from 7PM to 8:30PM at Trinity United Methodist Church located 2796 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, IN 47150. We have been there since 1929 in the "Scout House" behind the church, and have a truly "youth led" program. We camp on the third weekend of the month (parent's can actually plan their calendars). In addition to weekend programs we support summer camp for the younger scouts: 2018's choice is Camp Ransberg. However, we have attended Friedlander near Cincinnati, Crooked Creek, and Cole Canoe Base in Michigan. We sponsor crews to the high adventure bases annually feeling that our older youth need a more stimulating program as they mature. We are attending Philmont summer of 2017 and Northern Tier's Bissett, Manitoba base in 2018. We encourage parent participation in the leadership of the troop/crew and thus have a large number of registered adults. Many of these adults register as merit badge counselors allowing our youth access to the counselors they need to advance "in house". We pride ourselves on our outdoor and water program. One of our regular weekend trips is whitewater paddling on Elkhorn Creek near Frankfort, KY. The upper section of this stream is rated as Class III whitewater. For Scouts to be allowed on Class III water without a professional guide, they must have completed either the American Canoe Association whitewater class or it's equivalent. To comply we adapted the ACA course adding content that coordinates with the requirements of the BSA whitewater merit badge, so to my knowledge, in Lewis and Clark District, we are the only "street legal" unit taking our kids to the Elkhorn. We believe in and stress safety, and we are willing to invest the time and effort to make sure our kids have the opportunities to experience the outdoors safely. We have graduated well over 100 Eagle Scouts, and over 55 Triple Crown of High Adventure awards. We believe this is due, in large measure, to the effort we put into retaining our older Scouts by making sure they have program designed for their age group.  Our Scoutmaster is David Shiner. Our Crew Advisor is Loriann Quinn. Our past Scoutmaster is Al Holt who is the ASM who specializes in the Life to Eagle Scout program. David Jackson is the ASM responsible for the recruitment and training of our lifeguards. Ben Shiner is ASM for High Adventure planning. Kat Davis is our Popcorn Kernal and our contact person with the Cub Scout packs. John Lichtenberger is ASM who has specialized in Webelos to Scout and Klondike weekends. Additionally we have our own adults trained and certified for all shooting sports (Al Holt, Brian Rodgers, Jeff Wilson, John Lichtenberger, Eric Quinn). Most of our adults who participate in outdoor activities with the Scouts have Wilderness First Aid certifications. We welcome visitors! We also do a significant amount of fund raising as we believe our Scouts should actively help finance their Scouting careers. We feel that is part of growing up and becoming responsible. Bottom line, we are proud of our program, and we also have a great deal of fun!
