The emergency response team’s prime purpose of to fulfill the Scout Motto: Be Prepared. While we all hope there is never a need for emergency response or disaster relief, we know that thousands in Southern Indiana have been affected by tornadoes, ice storms, windstorms, flooding and other natural perils. The Boy Scouts have a long tradition of public service including service during the aftermath of natural disasters and other emergencies. The Crew 2010 led emergency response team must be prepared to move quickly to assist local authorities and disaster relief agencies. The primary purpose of the team will be to store, transport and provide tools, equipment, emergency supplies, food and water. Additional activities will include establishing communications and providing temporary shelter. Emergency Response Knowledge: The Boy Scout program encourages boys to learn and practice emergency preparedness skills. As a member of this crew, Scouts will be able to expand their knowledge so they will be able to respond to a wide range of disasters. Current Crew members & guests are participating in HAM radio and FEMA based emergency response training. To respond to disasters, the crew has an emergency response trailer & is in the process of obtaining other gear and emergency supplies needed to respond to a natural disaster event. Emergency Team Responsibilities: • Learn how to properly respond to natural disasters events and obtain appropriate designations. • Be willing to offer support when requested. • Demonstrate appropriate respect and compassion toward people affected in a natural disaster. • Be available to participate in emergency response efforts. • Follow District Honor Guard Emergency Response Team Protocols
