About Pack 71

Pack 71 currently has about 35 boys in 1st through 5th grade and continues to add members each year. Our focus is to provide a safe and fun atmosphere while teaching the boys about scouting. There are different ranks for each grade level, in which the boys earn their badges for that particular rank.

The ranks are as follows:
Tiger - First Grade
Wolf - Second Grade
Bear - Third Grade
WEBELOS I - Fourth Grade
WEBELOS II - Fifth Grade

Pack Meetings

Pack Meetings are held once a month with Cub Scouts, leaders, parents and other family members attending. We try to be consistent with scheduling the first Thursday of each month with the exceptions of falling on a holiday. The meetings are held at Tabor Children House ( 601 New Britain Rd, Doylestown PA 18901) from 7:00PM-8:30PM.

There are several reasons for Pack Meetings:

  1. Gives the Scouts a chance to display their completed projects and show off what they’ve learned to their friends and family.
  2. The Scouts receive awards, badges, and other recognition for their hard work during the past month.
  3. It promotes family communication and fun (the whole family is invited to share in the fun!).
  4. To communicate other aspects of Scouting and upcoming events such as campouts, upcoming field trips, training, etc.
  5. To build an appreciation that Scouts are part of a community and that good citizenship means caring about your friends and neighbors.

Each month we also do activities such as perform skits, tell jokes, sing songs, and do crafts. Dens take turns performing the flag ceremony, acting as host, and performing a short skit dealing with the theme of the month.

Den Meetings

Den Meetings are run by volunteer parents, who are called Den Leaders. The boys meet several times a month (depending on the dens schedule and rank requirements) to work toward their rank advancement goals and while having fun and bonding with their peers.

Den meetings are held at flexible times and are arranged to meet the needs of the Scouts, their parents, and the availability of leaders. Days, times, and meeting places are all decided upon by the parents and Den Leader. These intimate group meetings can be after school, in the evenings or weekends—whatever works best for the group. They can also be held wherever the parents decide. Den meetings can be held at Tabor Children’s House, in the Den Leaders home or another parents home, or the meetings can sometimes be a field trip like visiting a police station, fire station, or a wilderness sanctuary.

Uniform Requirements

Class A:

The official Cub Scout Uniform (refered to as Class A) can be purchased at the scout store. Pack 71 does not require the full cub scout uniform. There are only four articles that are required, all of which would represent their current rank

  1. Cub Scout Shirt with corresponding patches
  2. Cub Scout Hat
  3. Cub Scout Neckerchief
  4. Cub Scout Neckerchief Holder

Uniform Pants and belt are optional. Note: Cub Scouts can earn belt loops for sports and academics. These bel loops are designed to be placed on the uniform belt. You should purchase the last three items in the rank of the scout that your son is entering. These articles can be purchased at the Scout Store in Doylestown. The store is located near the library and art museum. They will make sure you purchase all of the important patches for your pack and rank as well as provide you with directions on proper patch placement.

A Cub Scout should wear his Class A uniform to Den Meetings, Pack Nights, and all Scout outings.

Class B
Pack 71 provides a pack T-Shirt (reffered to as Class B) for all registered cub scouts. Additional and adult shirts can be purchased at any Pack/Den meeting for $5. The Class B can be worn to all casual pack events and outings.

Financial Assistance

It is important to note that help may be available for those who may need financial assistance. Please contact a member of the pack committee if you would like to discuss this option. All conversations will remain confidential.

Pack 71 is beginning a uniform recycling program to help defray some of the uniform costs for its members while helping the environment.
