Cub Scout Pack 117 Baden-Powell District

WELCOME TO PACK 117, BADEN-POWELL DISTRICT

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your interest in scouting.  Let me start by introducing myself.  My name is John White and I am the current Cub Master. I have been in the military since I was 19 and love serving this wonderful country we live in. My wife, Shelley and I have been married since 1996. We have 4 wonderful children, ages 17, 15, 12 and 9.  We believe that scouting (both Boys & Girls) are wonderful and worthwhile organizations that benefit both the community and the individuals who participate. Shelley is a scout leader for our daughter’s Girl Scout troops as well as a leader in this pack.

I would like to be the first to welcome you and your son to Pack 117 of the Baden-Powell District in the Last Frontier Council.  We have a fun filled year planned with exciting Pack activities such as a Space Derby, Rain Gutter Regatta, Pinewood derby and evening adventure hikes/trips.  We will also be participating in several overnight camping trips around the state this summer.

Pack 117 was chartered at and by members of Putnam City United Methodist Church in 1961.   Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America have helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and our charter organization work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting.  The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:

Character Development

Spiritual Growth

Good Citizenship

Sportsmanship and Fitness

Family Understanding

Respectful Relationships

Personal Achievement

Friendly Service

Fun and Adventure

Preparation for Boy Scouts

The success of each meeting relies on every boy participating at each meeting.  Parents are encouraged to attend and play active roles in the Pack. Spending this time with you will enhance your son’s scouting experience.  Scouting is an investment. Families invest their time and energy and in return they gain the enjoyment and the personal rewards that Cub Scouting has to offer.  The more you invest, the more you can receive.

I look forward to knowing you and your son more through the year.  Together we can all make a difference in our communities and begin to prepare our children to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Sincerely,

John C. White
