The History of Troop 219

Troop 219 began in 1992 by a group of parents from Plymouth Elementary School. These parents attended a meeting conducted by Mr. Ted Hartley of the Rio Hondo District in which he presented the framework of the scouting program. Soon thereafter Plymouth Congregational Church agreed to sponsor the unit, a troop committee was formed and the necessary applications were filed.

Since then over 500 boys and adults have shared the scouting experience as  members of Troop 219. The Scouts learned the fundamentals of rank advancement, skill development and merit badges. This experience has included backpacking, summer camp, camporee, bicycle rides, river rafting, snow skiing, trail work, parades, color guards and community service.

The members of Troop 219 have completed 13 long term backpacking trips of at least 55 miles, two trips to the top of Mount Whitney and Mount Baden Powell. have attended summer camps from the Western Sierra's to Catalina Island. Over the last 20 years Troop 219 has organized the carrying of the division banners for the annual Whittier Christmas Parade.

It is widely recognized that the highest achievement a Scout can attain is to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 219 is proud to have produced 21 Eagle Scouts. These Scouts have brought distinction and recognition to themselves, to Boy Scouts, to their families and their Community.
 
What has brought success to Troop 219 is the commitment to growth development of the Scouts who have joined the Troop; the adult leaders that have dedicated and committed countless hours for the benefit of Scouting and acknowledging "we do it for the Boy Scouts". The Boys are taught to grow through established BSA scouting programs and always have fun and exciting outings along the way. ............ "SCOUTS OUT"
