Adult Leader - Training Forum


There are two types of leaders in the Troop.

* Troop Committee Members
* Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters

New Parent Member/Troop Committee Training Requirements

As an active troop, all parents are required to be fully trained in “scouting basics” to ensure the safety of the scouts and integrity to our program.

You may have previously taken some or all of the pre-requisites course below. Please, verify your last completion date to ensure completion within the Troop guidelines provided.

Upon completion, return copy of training certificates to the Troop 264 Training Coordinator. Retain a copy for your records.

On-line courses are free of charge; and must be taken within 45 days of becoming a Committee Member:

  • Signing or transferring your adult application
  • Signing or transferring the scout application
  • Date of cross over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts

“Trained” adults are a pre-requisite for troop outings, organizational re-charter and quality unit certification and a pre-requisite for your child’s participation in Troop 264. If there are any obstacles or special needs required to complete the training outlined below, please contact Troop 264’s training coordinator for assistance.

Create your BSA on-line training account at https://myscouting.org . Once an account has been created:

  • Click “e-training” link on left side of the screen
  • Select Boy Scout/Varsity tab
  • Launch the training course you are required to take

Complete the “basic training” indicated below, if you plan to participate on a Committee please also complete Committee Member required training:

Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Training Requirements

An active Scoutmaster (SM) or Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM) is required to be fully trained. Assistant Scoutmasters are also Patrol Advisors and work hand in hand with the Scouts.

You may have previously taken some or all of the pre-requisite courses below. Please, verify your last completion date and/or any refresher training.

On-line courses are free of charge; and must be taken within 90 days of becoming an appointed SM/ASM. Due to specific hands-on training dates for SM/ASM, it may be easier to complete the Troop Committee requirements and then continue with SM/ASM certifications when classes are given.
"Trained” adults are a pre-requisite for troop outings, organizational re-charter and quality unit certification and a pre-requisite for SM/ASM participation in Troop 264. Failure to complete training within the specified time will automatically revoke SM or ASM status.

Complete at least 2 other elective training courses, within 90 days
Complete at least 1 other ‘hands-on’ training course, within 12 months
