WELCOME TO THE LION PILOT PROGRAM!!!!

As the first year of the national Lion Den Program, Pack 33 at Columbia Heights is proud to be one of the few Cub Scout units to offer this opportunity to our families!

The LION DEN program is geared toward boys in their Kindergarten year of elementary education. It is a less-intensive and less-extensive adventure than its older Cub Scout brothers, the Tigers, Wolves and Bears. What does this mean?  While these Lion boys will still have 7 required adventures, they will only meet twice per month (including the field trips) and the meetings may only be 1/2-1 hour long. They also will have a simple Class B T-shirt as their official uniform, saving parents from the necessity of buying a Class A Blue uniform until the next year.

While Lion boys will not be excluded from fundraising or participation in such events as Pinewood Derby, they will also not be expected to do either, unlike the older boys.

Let us be clear here: We only require what is AGE-APPROPRIATE, so the younger your scout is, the less chances he'll have to engage in activities which could harm him, such as fire-starting or knife safety (which are both activities for older scouts to learn). This is the explanation of why the new Lion scouts will not be officially involved in the Fundraising or Pinewood Events... We do not want them forced to sell door-to-door or to saw wood if they are so small or unready for such tasks.

More Lion info will come in time....
