Welcome To Pack 1223

Please take a few minutes to read the following information.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the adult leaders or view our website Contact Our Pack page.

Mission

The mission of theBoy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moralchoices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oathand Law.

Vision

The Boy Scouts ofAmerica will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide youngadults/children with an effective program designed to build desirable qualitiesof character; to train for the responsibilities of citizenship; and to developpersonal fitness through the teaching of outdoor skills, team building andcommunity service.

Pack Meetings

Pack 1223 holds a Pack Meeting on the third Monday of themonth (unless otherwise communicated) in the Golden Hill ElementaryMulti-purpose room.  Pack meetings willbe planned by the Pack Committee (Pack leadership and parents) and conducted bythe Committee Chair.

Den Meetings

Your Scout will be assigned to a den based on grade.  The dens are encouraged to meet weekly or atminimum bi-monthly, to work on projects, advancements, or practice a skill inpreparation for an upcoming activity. The time and place of the den meeting will be determined by the denleader.  A Scout must be active in the Packin order to earn and receive awards.Excessive absentees will be brought up before the Committee.  A Scout must attend a majority of den and Packmeetings to be considered active.

Committee Meetings

The Pack Committee oversees the leadership, handles theadministration and makes policy for the Pack. All parents are encouraged to attend meetings, but only those that arecurrently registered as members are allowed to vote.  Committee meetings are held monthly at a timeand place designated by the Committee Chairperson.

Dues

Dues are used to pay for crafts, activities, Scout’s awardsand enable Den Leaders to provide the best Scouting experience for yourson.  Each Den Leader will determine howmuch is appropriate and how often dues are expected.

Fundraising

All Packs conduct a popcorn fundraiser during the fall toraise money for supplies, equipment, camping fees and awards.  Scouts are encouraged to participate in thesefundraisers as these funds support Pack activities and allow us to pay for bothyouth and adult Boy Scouts of America re-registrations each year.

Conduct &Discipline

All Scouts are expected to act like Scouts by following the Cub Scout Promise and Law of the Pack.  These can be found in the front of your son’sScout book.  Disruptive behavior weakensthe program for everyone and cannot be tolerated.  If disruptive behavior in den meetingsbecomes an issue, the Den Leader will have the option of requiring a parent tobe present.  If behavior continues to bea problem, matters will be brought up at the next committee Meeting forreview.  The Scout and parent will beinvited to come and voice their concerns.

ParentParticipation

One the keys to Cub Scoutingis the concept of Scout and parent (family) interaction.  In keeping with this concept, a parentpartner of each Scout shouldparticipate in some way over the course of the year.  There are all kinds of things that parentscan do, i.e. serve on the Committee, help plan and/or coordinate special eventsand activities, assist Den Leaders with tracking, artwork, activities, organizing, games, etc, or becoming an Assistant Den Leader.  The program is only as strong as we arewilling to make it, and with assistance from all parents, many more activitiescan be accomplished more efficiently.

-We need alot of help to run the Pack so we are requesting that each family take on aleadership or co-leadership role so that our sons have the best experiencepossible.

Siblings

Siblings are always welcome. We take pride in making our Pack feel like a family.  We only ask that during the Pack Meetingskids are kept quiet and under control so that the meeting can be conductedeffectively.

Uniforms

Cub Scouts will need a Class A uniform (Official DressUniform) and a Class B uniform (Activity Uniform T-shirt).

We encourage all Scouts to first purchase a Class B(Activity Uniform T-shirt) and then purchase a Class A uniform later, once the Scoutand parent have determined that they would like to continue as an active Scout.  Once a Class B design and color is chosen, wewill order as a Pack.

The regular Cub Scout uniform is as follows:

-Official Cub Scout blue shirt

-For Webelos Scouts, official Boy Scout tan shirt

-Patches properly sewn in place.  Proper placement is illustrated in each Cub ScoutHandbook

-Shoulder loops on the epaulets

-Official Cub Scout hat, specific to rank (i.e.Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos)

-Official Cub Scout neckerchief, specific to rank(optional)

-Official Cub Scout neckerchief slide, specificto rank (optional)
