Bobcat

Bobcat is the starting point for all boys entering Cub Scouts. The Bobcat rank is earned while your favorite scout is in his age-appropriate den. The rank is awarded once he knows the basic Cub Scout tenets (Scout Law, Oath, Salute, Motto) and completes the Child Protection Exercises with his sponsor. These exercises are specifically designed for the hazards today’s children are exposed to, and more importantly, equip your son with the tools necessary to stay safe. Bobcat requirements are in the front of all rank handbooks.

Tiger Cubs

Tiger Cubs is the introduction to Cub Scouts for 1st graders with a strong emphasis on fun. Your creativity is the limit when it comes to satisfying the 5 requirements for the Tiger Badge. Each requirement has a den and family activity to complete along with a “go see it” (or field trip). Tigers receive a “bead” for each activity successfully completed as they work toward their Tiger badge.

Although each Tiger den will have an official Den Leader, responsibility for the activities is shared by each scout/sponsor pair. When it is your turn to lead the activity, encourage your son to participate in the planning process. Remember: be creative: visit a fire station and climb on the trucks and try on a fireman’s suit (requirement 2 and a great photo experience!). Visit the post office to see how mail is sorted (requirement 2). Visit a pizzeria and make your own pizza (Elective 25 or 45). Tiger track beads are awarded for elective activities completed once the Tiger badge is awarded. There are over 50 elective activities!

Wolf Scouts

There are 12 requirements for 2nd graders to earn the Wolf rank ranging from Feats of Skill, Fixing & Building, Cooking, Family Fun, and Being Safe. A “progress toward rank” bead is awarded for each 3 requirements completed. Once the Wolf Rank is earned, there are 25 elective topics with over 100 activities to tailor den/individual interests. An “Arrow Point” is earned for each 10 activities successfully completed. Your creativity is the limit to how much fun your scout can enjoy while completing the requirements.

Bear Scouts

For boys in 3rd grade, Cub Scouts offers the Bear program. There are 24 requirements broken down into 4 main themes for Bear: God, County, Family, and Self. A Scout must complete 12 of these requirements to earn the Bear Rank. Progress toward rank beads are awarded for each 3 requirements completed. Activities completed and not used to satisfy the Bear Rank and completion of activities in any of the 24 elective topics may be used to earn “Arrow Points.” As with Wolf, arrow points are awarded for each 10 activities successfully completed.

Webelos

Scouts entering the 4th grade or new scouts entering the 5th grade start their Webelos journey. The Webelos program runs 1-1/2 yrs, terminating at the Blue and Gold Banquet in March of their 5th grade year. Boys must complete specific requirements to earn awards. 20 different Webelos activities are divided into 5 themed skills: physical, mental, community, technology, and outdoor.

Key milestones: Webelos Rank Badge, Compass Point Emblem, and Arrow of Light.

BSA Advancement Trail

BSA Official Advancement Trail - On the advancement trail, a Cub Scout progresses from rank to rank, learning new skills as he goes. Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As you advance through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities you learn as you get older.
