How does The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting work?
Everyone knows that Girl Scouts have badges. But The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting has more than just exciting, new badges for every age level. Each guide contains:
-
A colorful, easy-to-use binder specially designed for girls at each level. The binder comes chock full of essential information and badge activities—plus girls get to customize their own experience by choosing and adding in additional badge sets.
-
Legacy, Financial Literacy, and Cookie Business badge activities—or, for Girl Scout Daisies, petal and leaf activities. For more information about the National Proficiency badges, check out How the National Girl Scout Program Portfolio Works (PDF).
-
A detailed diagram showing where girls place the badges, pins, or awards with pride on their vests or sashes.
-
Ideas to help girls tie their badges right into their Journeys.
-
Vintage illustrations and quotes from Girl Scout history to help girls feel connected to the proud traditions of the past.
-
An awards log showing girls every award and badge available at their level, as well as the entire badge program at every level, so girls can see how their skills will grow in Girl Scouting.
See National Proficiency Badges (PDF) for some examples of badge progression.
See the Journey Summit Song for Daisies (PDF).
Statement of Trust
Girl Scouts of the USA creates national program materials to serve our vast and diverse community of girls. To help bring topics "off the page and into life," we sometimes provide girls — and their volunteers — with suggestions about what people across the country and around the world are doing, as well as movies, books, music, web pages, and more that might spark girl interest.
At Girl Scouts of the USA, we know that not every example or suggestion we provide will work for every girl, family, volunteer, or community.
In partnership with those who assist you with your Girl Scout group, including parents, faith groups, schools, and community organizations, we trust you to choose "real life topic experts" from your community, as well as movies, books, music, websites and other opportunities that are most appropriate for the girls in your area and that will enrich their Girl Scout activities.
Thank you for all you do to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to life with girls, so that they become leaders in their own lives—and the future leaders the world needs!

It's Your Planet—Love It!
Introducing the Second Series of Journeys
Between Earth and Sky
- Girl Scout Daisies join their flower friends for a cross-country road trip in their special flower-powered car!
- As they travel the country living the values of the Girl Scout Law, the flowers explore the natural world around them, learning what's local and why that's important.
- Along the way, the flower friends (and the girls!) sample the sights, and the wisdom of women working to protect Planet Earth.
- Daisies earn their Blue Bucket, Firefly, and Clover (uses resources wisely!) awards as they experience what's great about their own region and learn to use their own special skills to help people and Planet Earth.
Journey Awards
This journey presents Daisies the opportunity to earn three awards. Girls consider their feelings and skills and then take into account the feelings and skills of those around them. The girls then move on to engage their larger community and then they move out into their community to "do."
Although there's no set way to present it, you might spark the excitement of this award series by presenting the Between Earth and Sky background patch to all the Daisies at their first session. Or choose a way that works for the group.
The Blue Bucket Award
- Girls tell one another about their feelings and the feelings of those around them.
- Girls take part in role-playing activities that encourage them to resolve conflicts, negotiate, and be considerate to others.
The Firefly Award
- Think about and talk about their own skills and those of their sister Daisies.
- Choose a skill that they can teach others, either at home or in their community.
- Steps to the award are built into the suggested activities in the Sample Sessions.
The Clover Award
- Learn about and commit to protecting a natural treasure in their region.
- Educate and inspire others in their community to join with them to protect the local treasure, too.
5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals!
Daisies learn just how much they can care for animals and for themselves—and just how good that makes them feel.
5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals! will also introduce Daisies to the stories of the flower friends: Daisy, Sunny, Tula, Gloria, Gerri, Rosie, Vi, Clover, Mari, Lupe and Zinni. Each flower friend corresponds to a value in the Girl Scout Law.
Leadership Awards
- Birdbath Award - Daisies learn to care for animals and for themselves
- Red Robin Award - Daisies use their new knowledge and creativity to teach others how to care for animals
- Tula Award - Daisies gain courage and confidence in teaching others about animal care

School level: Kindergarten & Grade 1

Uniform:
All Girl Scout uniforms are optional. Daisys have a blue smock that covers their front and back and which ties at the side. (Tip: for tiny girls, bring the ties from the back panel to the front and knot together, or tie front strings together in the back.)
Colored petal badges are earned as the girls participate in activities that explore the basic principles and values of Girl Scouting, as described in the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Laws.
A yellow felt insignia tab is worn on the front, left shoulder. The Daisy Membership pin is attached to this (shown on bottom of tab). If a girl participates in the February Thinking Day event, her Thinking Day pin is also placed on this tab (top pin in picture).

Participation Patches:
Participation patches are worn on the back of the tunic. These patches may be given for special troop activities, Service Unit sponsored events, and Council sponsored Girl Scout programs. There is a patch available for almost any type of activity, should the troop leader be interested in purchasing and distributing them. When Daisy's bridge (graduate) to Brownies, they can move their participation patches to the back of their Brownie vests.
