FAQ:

What can I expect at the Scout Overnight?

We offer Math and Science activities for Cub Scouts in Houston (Wolf Scouts and higher) to help meet their pin and loop requirements.  Scouts will have time to participate in both activities and still explore the Children's Museum, or choose between the two and have even more time to explore. Scouts Overnights include unlimited access to state-of-the art interactive exhibits, sleeping within one of the Museum’s galleries, a late night snack, and continental breakfast.

Houston Girl Scouts (Brownie level) participate in a tour of the Museum and learn what Try-Its requirements they can meet within the Museum Exhibits.  Please note that Museum activities may not meet all merit badge requirements, but it will get them started in the right direction.  Girl Scouts will also have the chance to participate in the Fundred Activity and earn their Fundred merit badge.

How long is the Scout Overnight?

Check in begins at 7:00 pm on Friday evening and the Overnight continues until 8:00 am on Saturday morning. For the safety of all attendees, guests are asked to arrive prior to 7:00 pm and to refrain from leaving until 8:00 am the next morning.  Scouts who attend the overnight will also receive free entry into the museum beginning at 10am on the following Saturday.  If you wish to take advantage of this offer, please make note when you register.

What Scout activities will be available?

The Children’s Museum of Houston is able to offer unique and creative workshops that will help Cub Scouts meet requirements for the Math and Science loops and pins.  Houston Scouts will also have the chance to explore the Museum at their own pace, meeting further requirements for Language & Culture, Art, Citizenship and Physical Fitness.  Girl Scout programming is still being developed for Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts.

What is the Museum’s recommended ratio of chaperones to Scouts at the Overnight?

The Childern's Museum requires at least one adult for every four scouts but scouting groups are encouraged to follow their council recommendations for adult chaperone ratios. Please note that all Chaperones for the Girl Scout Overnight must be female.

What if I have someone in my group that has special needs?

We can accommodate those with special needs, but please contact us prior to the Overnight to provide specifics.

Are consent and release forms required for ALL Overnight participants including adult chaperones?

Yes, every Overnight participant is required to turn in a consent and release form! (These forms are included in the FINAL REGISTRATION form above.) Only individuals who have turned in a Children's Museum of Houston consent and release form at check-in will be allowed to stay at the Overnight.

May we bring our own food and drinks?

No, the Museum will provide a late night snack and a continental breakfast for all attendees. It is recommended that guests eat dinner prior to arrival.  If you need to make special arrangements, please contact Lydia Dungus at 713.535.7238 or e-mail: ldungus@cmhouston.org

What do I need for my overnight stay?

Attendees will need a sleeping bag or blanket, pillow, and a change of clothing. You may also bring a small mat to sleep on if you wish. Inflatable air mattresses, cots, or more than one small clothing bag are prohibited due to space limitations. Please leave electronics at home.

May I bring my camera?

Yes, cameras are allowed within the museum.

Where do Overnight participants sleep?

Attendees are separated by Troops and Packs and assigned specific galleries to sleep.

Can non-Scout siblings or friends attend Scout Overnights?

No, Scout Overnights are for registered Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts only.

How do I register for the overnight?

To reserve a space, a $10 non-refundable deposit is required for each scout and chaperone.  You may reserve a space by completing the RESERVE A SPACE form. To fully book your troop or pack, please complete the FINAL REGISTRATION form and submit with payment. Completed forms can be faxed to Lydia Dungus at 713.528.0563 or mailed to:

Can museum memberships be used to cover the Overnight cost?

No, museum memberships cannot be used to cover the cost to attend the Houston Scout Overnight.

What is your cancellation policy?

The Museum reserves the right to cancel the Houston Scout Overnight if the event registration does not meet minimum enrollment requirements. If the Overnight is cancelled by the Museum a full refund will be issued to your group. If the reserving group cancels the reservation there will be no refunds or transfers.
