Frequently Asked Questions - Troop 7237

1) How do I register my daughter for Troop 7237?

To register, you will need to fill out the
member registration form, as well as pay the $12 membership dues. These forms are not located online, but can be found at any girl scout store or with either troop leader (Nina Grande & Kristy Cole). As soon as your form and dues have been turned in (to any girl scout store), your daughter will be officially registered and can begin attending meetings.

2) What is the $12 membership dues used for and do I have to pay it every year?

All members are required to pay the $12 membership dues,
annually. The entire $12 membership fee is sent to Girl Scouts of the USA. GSUSA uses the membership fees to support program development and services on a national level. A portion of the membership fee is also used to provide a basic accident protection plan.

3) In addition to the $12 annual membership dues, are there any other troop dues collected throughout the year?

Yes - beyond the $12 membership dues paid each year, the troop sets a dues amount to be collected weekly, monthly, or periodically to help cover the costs of activities, patches, and supplies for the troop.  Each troop sets its own budget based on the goals of the girls in the troop. This year, Troop 7237 has decided to collect $3 at each meeting.

4) Once my daughter has been registered, what forms do I need to fill out?

After she has been registered (by completing the membership application and paying the $12 fee), the following 2 forms must be completed and put on file with the troop leader:
Medical Form (GSSJC F-185) and Permission Slip (GSSJC F-204).

5) How often does Troop 7237 meet, where and when?

Troop 7237 meets
every other Monday, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church (16335 El Camino Real, Houston, TX 77062), in room 411, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

6) If I would like to participate in any of the troops activities (ie, meetings, camping trips, cookie sales, fall product, etc.), what do I need to do?

Women and men over the age of 17, not enrolled in high school, can join Girl Scouts as adult or Lifetime members. A completed
"Volunteer Application" (GSSJC F-39), and an approved Criminal Background Check is required, plus the annual $12 membership dues. Girl Scout uniforms are not required for girls or adults. However, related expenses such as personal transportation, program event fees and uniforms are discretionary and fall under the responsibility of the volunteer. Financial assistance is available.

7) Do men have a place in Girl Scouts?

Certainly!  Every volunteer and staff position in Girl Scouts is open to qualified men, as well as women. Most commonly, men join Girl Scouts and volunteer to work with a troop as a "Do-Dad." This Council program allows dads to spend quality time with their daughters and offer support to the troop leadership team.  Any male, not enrolled in high school, 18 or older, who is important in the life of a Girl Scout, is eligible to become a "Do-Dad".

8) What forms need to be filled out for overnight trips?

When the troop is ready to do activities outside the meeting place, the following is required:
